In support of National Fire Prevention Week, Governor Kulongoski has proclaimed October 5-11 as Oregon Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme is Prevent Home Fires! "Citizens are the first line of defense in preventing home fires," said Oregon State Fire Marshal, Nancy Orr.

From 2003 through 2007 in Oregon, there have been 16,954 reported residential fires resulting in 123 deaths and 1,003 injuries. The Governor and State Fire Marshal encourage Oregonians to regularly check their homes for the leading causes of home fires.
